Parent Meeting Notes
12/12/09 CITV (10:30am)
Welcome – 3rd year as Wildcats Lacrosse (formerly AGRA)
Mission- (can read on the web)
As Avon Grove Wildcat lacrosse coaches we are first and foremost ambassadors of the game, teaching lacrosse and its life lessons will always be our top priority. We are not here put winning ahead of learning. It robs kids of the fun in participating. Your support helps us accomplish that. If winning above all else is your primary goal, don't bother registering. Secondly, we are looking for a synergy between the youth program and the H.S. program so we do not accept players from outside our borders (w/exceptions)
The CCLA is the league we participate in from U-9 through U-15 (www.cclalax.org). As a program we have been an instrument of change in the county (next season possibility of U-11 going A/B divisions, CCLA now has a website (pushing for interactivity), pushing for regionalized U-9 playdays. However, we are committed to pushing other organizations to get with it!! And make the county better (Oxford, Octorara) Cecil County.
Since we began last year, several of us have worked tirelessly on improving the organization: We have positional skills sessions for players /coaches, online registrations, tournament opportunities, now on turf fields (thanks to positive relationship with schools and AD), Cow Plop fundraiser in spring, community day, golf outing and more opportunities for our kids to excel on local travel teams. All this is accomplished by a collective few that anyone in the organization can take advantage. We are hearing more an dmore successes out of our region by Avon Grove kids, thanks to the opportunity we have provided.
New items:
- First and foremost the Website (www.avongrovelacrosse.org) This is an ongoing project.
- It is fully interactive and we are still learning its capabilities. We plan on having each team to find a team manager to be in charge of updating the web for their team among duties. (rosters, games cores, schedules, pictures and game results automatically will be sent to newspaper) your team page will only be as good as the person you have doing it.
- Each parent when registering will have a chance to create a profile that they may edit at any time. (notification of game cancellations via text messages, (you are in control), easy registration each year and other automated goodies
- After today, you may list an item on the Exchange section and swap directly with another person any day of the year.
- There is a section for player tips that will be updated frequently (and in the off season)
- There is a section for coaches that is password protected so only avon grove coaches can see the drills, plays and video
- There is a feedback forum page so parents can send a note to the org. with an issue of concern. Must ask you to use caution with this, observe the 48 hour rule and then contact us, you will not a return sooner than that anyway because we are observing it. But it is important to know that your needs, concerns, problems will be heard and addressed. Specific issues that come to mind are : inappropriate coaching behavior, unequal playing time, fan/parent behavior out of control, positive feedback accepted as well.
- Yearbook Builder- individual
Bottom line is that everything will be done via the web (or at least as much as possible), it will make it much easier for the organization to survive in the future by allowing us to focus on coaching.
1. Coaches meetings to try and unify the age groups with drills, philosophies, etc. Looking for consistency from year to year and a way of monitoring it . For example,
- equal playing time unless practices missed or need for discipline (low roster numbers),
- playing multiple positions from U-11 down including goalie
- We need coaches for U-15, U-13 and U-11, all at the b and c levels. (Please recommend any experienced coaches that may not have kids in the program., but we certainly don’t want to turn away an enthused dad.
2. Skills Sessions at All American sports Academy in Elkton.
- It is inexpensive and a great way to prep for spring. A proven success look at the younger guys. Enrollment is open until Dec 18th
3. Specialty clinics this spring (Face off, goalie, attack and Def ) they will be held on weekends and they are free to any player in our organization
- Set ourselves apart from other org. and improve specialty skills.
- Takes financial burden off parents that do not want to spend $$ on camps.
- We plan on adding more next year but we need to raise money.
4. We need help from parents to complete the following:
- community day helpers: sell apparel, set fields up, work concession stands, etc
- lining fields if off site?
- Fundraising committee, golf committee
- team managers
- Apparel coordinator and committees to sell (online?)
- Public relations (get info out to papers, schools, community, etc)
- Game programs
- Sponsor coordinator
- Yearbook manager
- Picture day coordinator
5. Parent conduct:
- Looking for an online course for parents
- We will take this seriously. other sports already doing with much success
- Looking for sideline control and to improve our reputation in league
- No coaching, no screaming at players and refs, no negative energy,
- A zero tolerance policy is being talked about in the league and we will go out of our way to make an example. We want to get back to the forefront of the CCLA in regard to sportsmanship
6. Finances -
- We need help when we do fundraisers. Maybe we did not ask enough or what ever the case.
- Our fundraisers and the web will drive a lot of the administrative tasks of the org
7. Tournaments....Most other orgs do.....nothing (left to individual
- We are looking to add another one (2 total) then the kids can play for the travel teams if they are old enough or do other stuff in the summer (like be a regular kid)
- If trying out for tourn. Teams, remember tryouts are in fall (Nov/Dec some in Jan) As of now we are an organization that operates from Jan 1. to 2nd week of June . Any out of season leagues in fall and winter were organized by parents and not endorsed or governed by the Wildcats. Wildcats will not do a thing unless everyone has the same opportunity.
8. Q&A...from parents regarding the 2010 season
9. There will be a Wildcats Girls lacrosse team forming for the 2010 season. www.avongrovegirlslacrosse.org It is not governed by the boys board of directors, rather it functions separately on its own. For more information :
